Why Study at CUHK LAW?
“The PCLL programme at CUHK is structured in a way that facilitates a smooth transition from studying law to practicing law. Having interned at major law firms and chambers, I can say that the courses offered on our PCLL programme are highly practical. The tasks assigned to us throughout the academic year mirror those given to trainee solicitors and pupil barristers. This pragmatic approach allows us to make mistakes in an affordable way, and to learn from them through constructive comments made by experienced tutors and lecturers.
Outside the classroom, CUHK LAW also offers ample opportunities for us to “learn by doing”. Besides attending classes, I served as the team leader of the New Venture Legal Team, where my team and I worked with real start-up companies and applied our legal research skills to support their businesses. Working with these entrepreneurs not only developed our business senses but also improved our transactional skills. Additionally, I benefited from the rich resources organised by CUHK LAW to support students participating in international mooting competitions. My advocacy skills were honed through serving as the oralist at the 15th Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition. With the support from CUHK LAW, my team and I won the championship at the competition.
All in all, the PCLL programme at CUHK emphasizes practicality thereby ensuring that we are prepared to meet the standard of work expected of us in the real world. I hope you will benefit from CUHK PCLL programme as much as we did.”

"The CUHK PCLL programme is an excellent bridge between legal studies and real-life practice. It provides a wide array of courses that equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to become a lawyer. The small group sessions are highly interactive and allow students to work on tasks that closely resemble those they will encounter in the real world. The course instructors would also share their professional experience and provide feedback on our work.
Another great aspect of the CUHK PCLL programme is the opportunity to develop advocacy and writing skills outside the classroom. I had the honour of representing CUHK at the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, in which I met and competed against law students from around the world. This experience enabled me to expand my horizons and network.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at CUHK PCLL and I am grateful to all my classmates and faculty staff for providing such a supportive and friendly learning environment. I highly recommend this programme to law graduates."

After completing my legal education in Germany, I knew I wanted to broaden both my personal and professional horizons and challenge myself by moving to a completely new environment. Thus, I chose the LL.M. in Energy and Environmental Law at CUHK as it offers the best mix of international and Chinese Law, with many comparative elements to EU law as well. I was awarded the Master of Laws Global Scholarship from CUHK's Faculty of Law, which helped me a lot to come to Hong Kong to study. Through the programme, I was not only able to expand my understanding of international and Chinese law thanks to many dedicated teachers, group projects and field trips, but also made numerous great acquaintances which made the time during my LL.M. one of the most enriching and exciting in my life.
Before joining CUHK Law, I had experience of working as a foreign registered lawyer in China and always wanted to have a more systematic understanding of Chinese law and Chinese legal culture. Chinese Business Law LLM naturally came as the perfect choice as it was carefully designed to combine legal theories with legal practices, with a clear focus on the business law of mainland China. As professors are quite international in terms of their educational background, the courses offered a comparative understanding of the Chinese legal system and students are often invited to critically analyze the current legal system in China in light of the latest social and economic developments. The staff and the professors are all very approachable and supportive and I always felt that I have a friendly face that I can turn to in case of trouble at CUHK Law. I firmly believe that Chinese Business Law LLM offers intellectually stimulating course which can lay a good foundation for anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in transnational business law.
My experience in CUHK has been highly rewarding and transformative. Upon completion of my bachelor’s, I was uncertain about the specialization I wanted to pursue, and the LLM in International Economic Law seemed like a perfect fit thanks to the extensive range of electives and the flexibility offered. This LLM has allowed me to explore diverse academic fields guided by excellent professors who are easily accessible and always willing to help you. The classes are dynamic, interactive, and up to date with the latest developments in each field. Furthermore, the Faculty actively encourages students to keep an eye on the latest job offers and recruitment events, facilitating the interaction with the Hong Kong legal market.
On a personal level, exploring the unique culture of Hong Kong and its surroundings has been an enriching experience. The city is vibrant and eventful, everyone can easily find their place here!

It has been a fruitful and unforgettable journey along the 2-year LLM route. I am grateful for all the support and mentor I got from the professors. Thank you for making the law course fun and interactive, thank you for bringing the classes to live. Not only did I gain deeper understanding about the legal system and controversial issues, but also how I am able to apply the legal theories to real life situations. I have definitely enjoyed the course.
"Choosing the JD Programme has been one of my best decisions. First, the well-designed curriculum and remarkable list of electives have provided me to immerse in an intellectually stimulating environment while also receiving a holistic legal education. Second, the highly qualified and caring Faculty members, who come from both academia and practice, have offered me opportunities to explore the sophisticated legal world from numerous perspectives at an early stage. Third, the clinical and extra-curricular opportunities as well as my participation in the Jessup Moot have provided me with a good mix of academic and practical experience.
Although the JD Programme is demanding, it is rewarding. Whether you are going down the solicitor or barrister track, or pursuing a non-legal career after graduation, the JD Programme will prepare you for the greater challenges ahead and transform you into a more competitive candidate in the market."
"Doing the CUHK JD Programme has been a truly rewarding and enjoyable experience. What I especially love about the Programme are the highly qualified and international faculty members, who bring to us not only high-calibre teaching but, more importantly, insightful understanding into their respective expertise. The faculty members who are practitioners share with us their first-hand experience and insights in landmark cases that they have been involved in, while the academics open our eyes with their in-depth knowledge through stimulating in-class discussions. Their passion and willingness to teach have been especially inspiring for aspiring lawyers like me. The Programme also provides a wide range of electives that includes more niche areas of law, so every student will always be able to pick something s/he is interested in. All in all, the JD Programme has been a truly invaluable and privileged experience and I believe wholeheartedly that the teaching and training the Programme provides will equip every student with the necessary skills to excel in their careers."
"After entering into the workplace for a considerable number of years, I firmly believe CUHK JD Part-time Programme is a wise choice for full-time professionals striving for a good work-study balance edge. The JD Programme has a flexible curriculum which allows students to cater for their personal living pace, and concurrently offers a wide spectrum of electives to further broaden the knowledge scope and create a fabulous brain-crossing opportunity with their careers. The professors encourage critical thinking and in-depth sharing on various law topics, which grant students further insight and solidifies the learning experience. Whether applicants are aiming for a career switch or simply learning law for self-enrichment, this programme deserves my high endorsement and I am confident that the skill-set and knowledge accumulated from the programme will efficiently facilitate further excellence in the next stage of career progression."
