CUHK LAW hosted its Doctoral and Master’s Degrees Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2025 on 8 November 2025, presided over by Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK. The event was further distinguished by the presence of The Honourable Paul Lam Ting-kwok, GBS, SC, JP, Secretary for Justice of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, who served as the Guest of Honour.

In his address, Professor Lo extended congratulations to the graduating class, commending their achievements and resilience. Professor Lo also underscored the Faculty’s forward-looking initiatives, citing the launch of a pioneering Master’s Programme in AI Law and strategic partnerships with leading technology enterprises. These efforts, he noted, exemplify the Faculty’s mission to cultivate legal professionals equipped to navigate the complexities of the digital age and to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of justice and governance.

Secretary for Justice Mr Lam in his address emphasised the indispensable role of legal education in upholding the rule of law. “Legal education does not only impart knowledge but also instills a deep sense of responsibility and integrity in students,” he said. He stressed the importance of continuous and forward-looking legal training, especially amidst an ever-changing global landscape.

Mr Lam congratulated CUHK LAW on its remarkable achievement – as the youngest in Hong Kong, it has swiftly risen to become one of the world’s leading law schools, enjoying a strong reputation for its excellence in legal education and research. He lauded CUHK LAW for its pivotal role in nurturing competent and ethical legal professionals, and the Faculty’s diverse and practice-oriented postgraduate offerings, including programmes in Chinese business law, energy and environmental law, and international economic law – areas of growing importance to both Hong Kong and our country’s continued development.

Addressing the graduates, Mr Lam called upon them to embrace their role in safeguarding Hong Kong’s legal legacy, “You are the torchbearers of our legal heritage. It is your responsibility to uphold the values of justice, fairness, equality, openness, and tolerance that define our legal system.” He affirmed that the legal profession is not merely a career, but a calling that demands a lifelong commitment to justice, fairness and the advancement of society.
