Prof. Chin Leng LIM’s co-edited symposium issue, “The Bandung Conference at 70: International Law’s Many Third Worlds” has been published

Prof. Chin Leng LIM, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Law, was invited by the American Journal of International Law to co-edit AJIL Unbound’s symposium issue on “The Bandung Conference at 70: International Law’s Many Third Worlds”.

Aside from the editors’ “Introduction to the Symposium”, Prof. Lim’s article “Bandung between Civilisational Equality and National Liberation” explores how the various Global South nations could sometimes approach colonial-era treaties and other agreements in different ways today. Although all claim sovereign equality, and identical legal rights flow from the claim under international law, some may reject colonial treaties and agreements on that basis while others may not. These issues, together with questions about the interpretation of such agreements, can and do arise in state practice and before international tribunals. His research is supported by the Research Grants Council in Hong Kong China (GRF Grant No. 14607024).
