Prof. Robin HUANG invited to give a talk on Asset Management Regulation

Posted on 31 October, 2019

Prof. Robin HUANG was invited by the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank in China, to give a talk entitled ‘The Legal Basis and Operational Models of Asset Management: the US experiences and Implications for China’ on 25 October 2019.

As a major form of shadow banking, China’s asset management industry has grown rapidly in recent years, but has been plagued by regulatory issues such as regulatory arbitrage which may give rise to risks of investor protection and financial instability. The talk is based on a paper that Prof. Huang has recently published in a core law journal in China (here). The talk, followed by a Q&A session, lasted for almost two and a half hours, and was attended by a record number of PBOC’s staff members. The talk helps to establish and strengthen links between regulators and scholars, with a view to making a direct and significant impact on the financial markets and beyond.
