There is a long history of mediation as dispute resolution in the Scandinavian region and, as in Hong Kong today, family mediation is promoted as an effective means to resolve disputes arising from relationship breakdown, separation and divorce.

But, is family mediation across Scandinavia any different to family mediation in Hong Kong? How might cultural differences vary the ‘flavour’ of family mediation? Is ‘hygge’ even relevant? What impact does the ‘social welfare’ foundation of many Scandinavian countries have on family mediation processes and outcomes? How are Scandinavian children treated in the mediation process? And what, if anything, can Hong Kong family mediation practitioners learn from family mediation ‘the Scandinavian Way’? In this seminar, Prof. Scully-Johnson will focus on family mediation in the Scandinavian way.
