Over the last couple of years the global pandemic has changed and limited the way we interact with those around us.

CUHK LAW Alumni is doing something about this.  As much as we would like to, we are not yet able to return to mingling in hotel lobbies sipping martinis.  But if people can happily conduct their marriage ceremonies in cyberspace, why can we not run an alumni networking event online?

We invite you to such an event on Friday 9 July.  In this we will have guests from various walks of the legal profession – solicitors, the Bar and in-house – from multiple jurisdictions and leading firms discussing in a roundtable forum their networking experiences and tips.  They will discuss a number of questions.  For instance, why exactly has networking been so important to their professional success?  How do they network successfully?  Are there differences in the way people network in different contexts, countries and cultures?  What networking practices can make you, or break you?

After this discussion, in keeping with the evening’s theme, we will invite you into rolling online meeting rooms to meet with different fellow alumni in small group settings.  In these you might bump into old friends or meet new ones.  Why only talk about networking when you can network?

Even though, this time, you will need to bring your own drink, we look forward to seeing you in our virtual conference room and lobby.

• Mr Paul Mitchard QC: Paul is CUHK LAW’s Director of Career Planning and Professionalism.  Having practised for many years in London and Hong Kong, he was formerly a Partner of Skadden’s in Hong Kong.
• Ms Wency Yu (CUHK JD): Wency is a partner of Broad & Bright in Beijing.
• Mr Kent To (CUHK LLB, PCLL): an alumnus from our first LLB intake, Kent trained at Linklaters, then moved to White & Case, both in Hong Kong.  He is now in-house at Union Bancaire Privée (HK).
• Mr Eugene Kwan (CUHK LLB, PCLL; BCL (Oxon)): Eugene is now a tenant of Hong Kong’s Temple Chambers.
