CUHK Law Alumni Awarded Best Orator in Essex Court Chambers – Singapore Academy of Law International Mooting Competition

Posted on 13 January, 2017

Keith Cheung (PCLL 2016; JD 2015, CUHK) and Cynthia Or (PCLL 2015; JD 2014, CUHK) participated in the Essex Court Chambers – Singapore Academy of Law (ECC-SAL) International Mooting Competition held at the Supreme Court of Singapore from 7-11 January 2017.  The team progressed to the semi-final – making the last 4 teams left in the competition.  Keith also won the award for the Best Orator (Advocate) in the contest.

This is the first time a team from Hong Kong participated in the ECC-SAL moot and they were the only non-Singapore team which qualified for the advanced rounds.  Teams from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore and South Korea participated in the competition.

Keith and Cynthia are both trainee solicitors at international law firms in Hong Kong and were previously members of the CUHK Vis Moot team.

The ECC-SAL International Mooting Competition 2017, co-organised by the members of Essex Court Chambers and the Singapore Academy of Law, presents an ideal opportunity for young lawyers to showcase and hone their skills as advocates. Now in its 6th year, the contest is open to young advocates from Australia, Brunei, India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea.
