Conference on Aviation Law and Policy in Asia: Smart Regulation in Liberalized Markets

Aviation in Asia has undergone a significant transformation in the past three decades. Asia will be the biggest driver of demand for at least the next 15 years with more than half of new passenger traffic originating there. China will replace the U.S. as the world’s largest aviation market around 2024. India will displace the UK for third place in 2025, while Indonesia and Japan will be ranked 5th and 7th, respectively. Hong Kong, as an international aviation hub, offers 1,100 daily flights with over 120 airlines serving over 220 destinations worldwide.
Despite such remarkable growth, Asia is under-represented in the academic literature. The lack of literature causes the misunderstanding that aviation law and policy in Asia are not sufficiently developed. As a part of the book project in Brill’s Asian Law Series, Conference on Aviation Law and Policy in Asia: Smart Regulation in the Liberalized Markets will examine the legal and policy evolution of the aviation sector in 15 different Asian jurisdictions and will analyze the dynamic regulatory challenges that each jurisdiction faces.
