The 3rd Machine Lawyering Conference: Legal Innovation in the Digital Society

The Centre for Financial Regulation and Economic Development (CFRED) at CUHK LAW held the third annual Machine Lawyering Conference, “Legal Innovation in the Digital Society,” online on 18-19 February 2022. Esteemed scholars and practitioners from 26 institutions in 13 jurisdictions presented 30 papers, featuring pressing issues surrounding AI transparency, bias in the automated decision making, algorithmic justice, personal data protection, cybersecurity, blockchains and smart contracts, data governance, financial technologies and legal technologies. These 30 papers were selected from more than 80 submissions through anonymous peer review by the conference committee, consisting of Professors Kevin Cheng, Stuart Hargreaves, Robin Huang, Jyh-An Lee, Eliza Mik, and Normann Witzleb, who also moderated different sessions in the conference.  Other speakers and moderators from the Faculty included Dean Lutz-Christian Wolff, Professors Gregory Gordon, Bryan Mercurio, Michelle Miao, Chao Xi, and Mr. Ian Lee.
