Prof. Jyh-An LEE was quoted by BBC News (Chinese) about government control of VPN use in China

Prof. Jyh-An LEE was quoted by BBC News (Chinese) about the increasing government restriction on the use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) in China.

In the article, Prof. Lee was asked to comment on a recent case, in which a VPN user was fined for evading the Great Firewall and accessing overseas websites. His viewpoints are (1) this was not the first case if its kind because similar cases already existed in 2017; (2) while the Chinese government used to rely on technological approach to restrain the use of VPN, this case reveals that law enforcement now plays a more important role in the implementation of such a policy; (3) the government used to target at businesses providing VPN services or using VPNs, but this case denotes the authority has recently enforced the law against individual users as well.
