Faculty Research Seminar – ‘Public Attitudes to Cartels in Mainland China and the Hong Kong S.A.R.: An Empirical Study’ by Prof. Sandra Marco Colino (Online)

In this seminar, we will present the results of a survey of public attitudes to price fixing and cartel enforcement conducted in Mainland China and the Hong Kong S.A.R.. Since similar surveys have been conducted in other parts of the world, including the UK, Australia, Germany, Chile and the US, we will compare the results obtained. Mainland China respondents reflect greater tolerance towards price fixing, but the Hong Kong results are broadly in line with those from other countries. On the basis of the results, Prof. Marco Colino will discuss the implications for the legitimacy of antitrust in the Chinese context, and will put forward potential policy solutions.
