“Directions in Legal Education 2020” Online Conference on Teaching and Learning in Law
CUHK LAW would like to invite you to participate in ‘Directions in Legal Education 2020’ Online Conference on 18, 19 & 20 June 2020.
The 3-day conference consists of a very full and stimulating programme. We have an exciting line up of 80 speakers from around the world and over 70 presentations. Panels include: Students as Producers; Women in Law; Professionalism and Employability; Law, Technology and Going Online; Diversity in Legal Education; Pedagogy; Innovative Subjects in Legal Education. Each speaker will have 15 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A.
As at the two previous conferences there are a number of distinguished lead and keynote speakers, selected highlights include our three keynote speakers (all times HK local):
Thursday 18 June: 17.50 – 18.50 ‘The Future of Legal Education – A Civil Law Perspective’ Professor Michael Martinek (Former Director of the Institute of European Law, Professor, University of Saarland in Saarbrücken)
Friday 19 June: 17.30 – 18.30 ‘What are We Training Aspiring Lawyers to Become?’ Professor Richard Susskind OBE (Oxford Internet Institute)
Saturday 20 June: 15.10 – 16.10 ‘Legal Education in Hong Kong’ Professor Geraint Howells, Professor of Commercial Law, University of Manchester (Former Chair Professor of Commercial Law and Dean of the Law School at City University of Hong Kong).
Then on Saturday 20 June we have the Big Debate and a panel of US Law Deans discussing the future of legal practice and education:
13:30 – 15:00: The Big Debate, ‘Teaching, Learning and Lawyering in a Time of Crisis’
18:15 – 19:15: ‘The Future is Now: Leaders in American Legal Education Look Ahead’
Join legal industry analyst, Mr. Ari Kaplan, in a moderated discussion with law school deans Professor Danielle Conway, Professor Rachel Janutis, and Professor Anthony Crowell in an engaging discussion about the state of legal education in the United States, its rapid transformation over the past few months, and how the dynamically changing legal profession will impact legal education forever.
