2018 Hong Kong Moot on Climate Change

27 October 2018

On 27 October 2018 the Hong Kong America Center (HKAC) and CUHK Law convened an environmental moot court for students from all disciplines and all HK universities.

The competition attracted more than 80 participants and 12 mooting teams addressed the same problem statement. Students formed interdisciplinary teams addressing important questions such as how can the UN strengthen implementation of the Paris Accords on Climate Change? What should HK do to meet its own goal of reducing carbon intensity by 20% by 2020, and more by 2030?

Mr. Adrian Lai (Deputy Secretary-General, Asian Academy of International Law); Mr. Peter Cheung (former Director of Intellectual Property Department, HKSAR); Dr. Glenn Shive (Executive Director, Hong Kong America Center) and Professor Julien Chaisse (CUHK Faculty of Law) participated as judges at the Hong Kong Moot on Climate Change. In addition, five CUHK Law PhD students (Mr. Can Eken, Ms. Qian Xu, Mr. Sunny Cheng, Ms. Ma Sai, and Ms. Carrie Shu Shang) acted as judges to evaluate submissions made by the competing teams.
