CUHK LAW wins the 15th Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition

CUHK LAW has once again achieved victory at the 15th Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition, which was hosted by Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico City from 18 to 20 April 2024.

17 teams from around the world, including McGill University, the National University of Singapore, and the China University of Political Science and Law, competed in the semi-finals. CUHK LAW competed at this stage against 4 teams: the Esade Law School of Ramon Llull University (Spain), Ibn Haldun Universitesi (Türkiye), Leiden University (The Netherlands), and National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece).

At the finals, CUHK LAW as Respondents faced off against Applicants Leiden University in what turned out to be a highly anticipated rematch. The finals judge panel was chaired by Michael Gill, Director of the Legal Affairs and External Relations Bureau of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), who was accompanied by Nuhad Ponce Kuri and Carlos Sierra, distinguished aviation lawyers based in Latin America.

In addition to the championship, the CUHK LAW team won best overall for Respondent’s Memorial and Oral Performance.

This is CUHK’s 7th Air Law Moot team consisting of PCLL students Brian Hung Hei POON, Jaclyn Lok Hang MA, and Rhine Yang LIU. The student coach was PCLL student Ching Pang LI. The team continues its tradition of strong international performance under the leadership of Prof. Jae Woon LEE, who has coached all CUHK air law mooting teams since its first participation in 2018. CUHK LAW had previously won the championship in 2022 and won the second place overall in 2021.
