Prof. Eliza MIK delivered a research seminar on large language models at the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 2 April 2025.

The seminar, entitled “In Contempt of Reality: Some Thoughts on Legal Hallucinations”, focused on the challenges of measuring the reliability of AI-based tools in high-risk domains that often lack an indisputable ground truth. The ensuing discussions explored the inherent limitations of autoregressive transformers, the technology underlying modern LLMs, and the dangers of anthropomorphizing computational processes.
