Prof. Anne SCULLY-JOHNSON has published a book chapter entitled “Three Pillars: Articulating A Family Law Pedagogy For Hong Kong” in Henry Kha and Mark Henaghan (eds), Teaching Family Law: Reflections on Pedagogy and Practice (Routledge, 2023).

Abstract: Family law is a busy area of practice in Hong Kong and a popular choice of elective course for law students there. Reflecting on ways in which family law is, and could be, taught in Hong Kong necessitates an analysis of its history and recent reform of legal education, the cultural specificities of life and how these intersect with tertiary educational values, the English family law transplanted to Hong Kong during earlier colonial times and the development of legal concepts of “the family” in post-colonial, international Hong Kong. In articulating a family law pedagogy for Hong Kong, it is suggested here that there are three key aspects for consideration: active learning, setting family law within a multidisciplinary context and teaching in a bicultural society.
