Faculty Online Seminar – “Energy Geopolitics and Law along the New Silk Road” by Prof. Anatole Boute

This online seminar focuses on energy security in Central Asia –China’s strategic rear and a central part of the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as a strategic component of Russia’s sphere of influence and European, American, Indian and Iranian foreign policy interests. The region is one of the world’s major energy resource bases. It is also, paradoxically, an example of the failure of law to ensure the stable and reliable functioning of energy systems. The potentially destabilizing effect of a collapse of energy supply in Central Asia could seriously harm the geopolitical interests of the major players in Central Asia’s New Great Game. This seminar discusses how law and geopolitics interact in ensuring the security of energy supply in regions of high strategic importance.
