[Cancelled] CLINDS’s 25th LegalTech Seminar – ‘Unlocking the Potential of Legal Generative AI: Introducing Harvey, a Legal Domain-Specific LLM’ by Ms. Sharyn Ch’ang (Online)

This seminar is cancelled.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of legal technology, staying ahead of the curve is not just an advantage, it’s a necessity. Building on past CLINDS webinars where Dr Eliza Mik has spoken about Large Language Models (LLMs) for lawyers and discussed technical concepts such as fine tuning, token limits, context windows and prompt engineering, CLINDS are delighted to host an exclusive webinar for law students and the legal profession where our guest speaker, Sharyn Ch’ang from PwC, will introduce Harvey, a legal domain-specific LLM designed for lawyers.

Harvey is not the only commercially available legal LLM in the market and this is not a product demo webinar. Harvey is also proprietary, so there will be no discussion about the inner workings of Harvey nor details of the data it is trained on. However, there are no publicly available demos or videos of Harvey anywhere, so seeing a LLM like this in action will inspire an improved understanding of the art of the possible for all lawyers. With LLMs like Harvey available now, where its super-powers include reviewing, analysing and drafting all forms of text faster than any human, imagine what the future of generative AI holds for legal practice, research and use of data-driven legal insights.

There are also risks and limitations when you use any generative AI tool, and no LLM always provides perfect responses. Nor do we. You wouldn’t send out the work of a junior lawyer to a client without checking it. You must also check an LLMs output.

Participants who join this webinar will gain a clearer understanding of the practicalities, potential, and precautions associated with the use of LLMs in legal practice. The agenda will include:

• AI Myth Busting: Dispelling common misconceptions held by the legal profession about AI.
• LLM Limitations: Acknowledgement of the inherent risks associated with the use of LLMs in legal practice.
• Harvey Unveiled: An introduction to and demo of Harvey as an example of a legal domain-specific LLM.
