CFRED’s 17th LegalTech Seminar – ‘Harnessing LegalTech and Social Listening in Modern Lawyering’ (Online)

Over the past several years, the legal sector has undergone some of the most substantial changes in decades, prompted by serval factors including technological advances and the breathtaking development of Big Data and AI Technology. Much legal work that was previously done by lawyers is now replaced by technologies. In addition, the world grapples with suffering from the pandemic long-term, and the accompanying consequences for all industries. Hence, it’s now more crucial than ever to stay up to date with legal technology trends.

This seminar will introduce the latest development of LegalTech and the applications of Social Listening in the legal industry. It will also propose a strategy of promoting data awareness via LegalTech in the legal profession.

The seminar will be conducted in English.

About the Speakers:

Dr. Angus Cheong, Founder and Chief Consultant, uMax Data Technology Limited
Dr. Angus W.H. Cheong is founder and CEO of ERS e-Research & Solutions which is a data-driven research company focusing on data mining, web mining, polling and research business in the Greater China Region since 2009. He is also the founder and chief consultant of uMax Data Technology of Hong Kong.

Serving as the incumbent chair of Asia Pacific Internet Research Alliance (APIRA), Dr. Cheong is an expert in research and consulting, covering big data, public opinions, web mining, smart city planning and assessment,e-policy strategies and O2O business solutions. He is currently the chief consultant of the smart city development indicator project of the Macao SAR Government.

Dr. Cheong obtained his PhD degree from the School of Communication of Hong Kong Baptist University in 2006. He has served the University of Macau as an assistant professor before his entrepreneurship, and later as a visiting scholar of the Hong Kong Baptist University as well as the University Institute of Lisbon.

Mr. Foster Yim, Barrister, Liberty Chambers and Honorary Advisor, LawMiner
Mr. Foster Yim is a practicing barrister in Hong Kong, specialized in litigations and advisory on prelisting matters, i.e. pre-initial public offering (“Pre-IPO”). He is a keen advocate of legaltech. Currently, he is a Court member of Lingnan University, Hong Kong and an advisor for the Deep Learning Research and Application Centre for Hang Seng University, Hong Kong.

The Law Society of Hong Kong has awarded this seminar 1.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.
