A CUHK Law Faculty student team participated in the Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Mooting Competition in Hong Kong from March 15-20, 2010. Teams from 74 law schools participated in the moot. The CUHK team members were JD students, Jeannette Mok, Ann Cheung, Christina Tseng, Cynthia Lee and Hayden Lau. The team performed very well with Hayden Lau being awarded an “honourable mention” for his advocacy skills.

Another CUHK Law Faculty student team participated in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Mooting Competition in Vienna from March 25-30, 2010. The team members were JD students Yvonne Cham, Cheryl Lo, Gerald Lam, Jean Lau and PCLL student Celine Leung. The team did very well by qualifying for the competitive round of the competition by ranking in the top 64 from 258 participating teams. Gerald Lam was awarded an “honourable mention” for his advocacy skills.

Both teams were coached by Peter Rhodes, Kun Fan, Vivian Wong and Devin Sio.

The competition involved both teams having to analyse a complex problem involving international commercial arbitration and international sales issues. Each team had to draft two lengthy memoranda setting out the arguments for both the claimant and the respondent. Teams then had to argue the case for their client before a panel of three distinguished arbitrators.

The achievements of both teams were reflected in the highly positive comments made by the arbitrators before whom the teams argued.
