CFRED’s 4th LegalTech Seminar- Tokenised Securities and Assets: A New Dawn or the Emperor’s New Clothes? by Mr. Pádraig Walsh

04 March, 2019

This presentation will critically analyse the emerging trend in blockchain technology of security token offerings and secondary trading. The presentation will address the why, what and how of this new marketplace, and will cover:

  • What are security tokens and what is a security token offering?
  • What are the legal implications of conducting a security token offering?
  • Why should we be interested in the advent of this technology-enabled offering?
  • What are the use cases for tokenised securities?
  • How is a security token offering conducted?
  • What is the current status of this new area? What elements are needed for it to reach maturity?

We will look at whether tokenised securities are something bright, shiny and new, or whether it is a technology-enhanced form of dematerialised securities and asset securitisation we are already familiar with.
