Prof. Normann WITZLEB has published a co-authored article on “Data Flows and Data Protection in the Greater Bay Area: The Need for a Coordinated Legal Framework” in The Chinese Journal of Comparative Law (Oxford University Press) with Adam Au.
The article explores the potential for greater coordination and harmonization of data privacy laws between Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China. It proposes to explore the potential of facilitating inter-regional data transfers through a coordinated data export framework. The article also explains why this is a more realistic medium-term objective than a full harmonization of the data protection regimes in the three jurisdictions.
