Prof. Hao ZHANG’s co-edited book, Handbook of Energy Law in the Low-Carbon Transition, has been published by De Gruyter.

This edited volume marks a significant contribution to the understanding of the legal aspects surrounding the ongoing global energy transformations. This comprehensive volume offers a comparative perspective that delves into the legal foundations of these transformations. Introducing the concept of legal pathways of decarbonisation as a helpful tool, the book is divided into five parts, each dedicated to analysing the institutional and regulatory contexts that shape energy law and policy decisions related to decarbonisation in different countries and regions. Through this approach, this Handbook offers valuable insights into the intricate relationship between energy systems and the legal frameworks that govern them.

The co-editors of this volume are Prof. Giuseppe Bellantuono (Professor of Comparative Law, Faculty of Law, University of Trento, Italy), Prof. Lee Godden (formerly was Professor at Melbourne Law School, The University of Melbourne, Australia; currently Dean of Faculty of Law, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand), Prof. Hanri Mostert (DST/NRF SARChI Research Chair for Mineral Law in Africa and Professor of Law at the University of Cape Town, South Africa), Prof. Hannah J. Wiseman (Professor of Law and Wilson Faculty Fellow in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, and Institutes of Energy and the Environment Co-funded Faculty Member, Penn-State Law, United States), and Prof. Hao Zhang (Associate Professor, CUHK LAW).

Prof. Zhang and CUHK LAW PhD students Ms. Lan WU and Mr. Shaimerden CHIKANAYEV have contributed chapters to this volume. Their chapters are:

Ms. Lan Wu, ‘Interaction between Renewable Energy Integration and Wholesale Electricity Markets: a Legal and Regulatory Perspective’, pp. 123-143.

Mr. Shaimerden Chikanayev, ‘The Role of Natural Gas in the Energy Transition’, pp. 145-163

Prof. Hao Zhang, ‘Energy Transition Pathways for Asia and the Pacific: Regulatory Policies and Challenges for Renewable Energy Development’, pp. 291-307.
