Prof. Eliza MIK spoke on “Contracts between Avatars” at a symposium on the future of private law in the digitalised world
Prof. Eliza MIK presented at a symposium titled “Persons and Things in the Digitalised World – The Private Law of Cybernetic Avatars in 2050” held on 27 September 2024 at Chuo University in Tokyo, Japan. Her presentation, titled “Contracts between Avatars”, addressed the doctrinal challenges of applying traditional principles to virtual environments as well as the misconceptions regarding the attribution of the acts “of” avatars to their human users. Forming part of UNIDROITS’s continued work on digital assets and private law, the symposium debated the need to reconsider the fundamental concepts of “persons” and “things” in the Metaverse.
