Matthew Suen is a practising barrister at Denis Chang’s Chambers (Hong Kong). He is one of the Charles Ching Scholars named by the Hong Kong Bar Association in 2022.
Matthew practises across the full range of commercial litigation, international arbitration and advisory work. He is regularly instructed to act in high-stakes commercial arbitrations administered by major arbitral institutions in Asia, including HKIAC, SIAC, CIETAC (HK) and SHIAC.
Matthew read law in Hong Kong and mainland China. He is a graduate of CUHK LAW (LLB and PCLL (Dist)) and holds a Master of Laws degree in PRC Civil and Commercial Law from Peking University. Matthew was an avid mooter during his years at CUHK LAW. He was an oralist of CUHK LAW’s team in the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, and went on to coach the team (together with other student coaches) under the leadership of the late Professor Peter F Rhodes.
Practice aside, Matthew currently serves on the Standing Committee on Mainland Affairs and the Committee on Arbitration of the Hong Kong Bar Association.
