Following the great success of Female Legal Leaders Seminars since its launch in 2019, CUHK LAW now proudly presents the sixth Female Legal Leaders Seminar to be held via Zoom on 14th March 12:30-2pm.

About the Speakers:

Marcia Ellis is the Global Co-Chair of Morrison Foerster’s Private Equity Practice, a member of the firm’s global board of directors and global Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Steering Committee. She has also been named to Law360’s 2022 and 2023 Private Equity Editorial Board and elected as the Co-Chair of AmCham Hong Kong’s Women of Influence Committee.

Marcia’s practice focuses on private equity transactions and complex mergers and acquisitions involving companies, real estate and other assets located in Asia. Having practiced in Asia for more than a quarter of a century, she is one of the most experienced and sophisticated private equity lawyers active in the Asian market. In the past three years, she has advised clients on deals with a total aggregate value well in excess of US$265 billion.

Connie Heng is Clifford Chance’s Regional Managing Partner in Asia Pacific and partner of the Greater China Capital Markets team. During her 20-plus year career, she has assisted many Hong Kong and Chinese issuers with their securities offerings in the international debt capital markets and has advised on numerous landmark transactions. She is recognised as a Leading Individual by Chambers Asia Pacific and Legal 500 and has received a Highly Regarded ranking from IFLR 1000. Chambers Asia Pacific, Legal 500 and IFLR 1000 have all ranked the capital markets (debt and equity) practice as Band 1 for five consecutive years.

Connie is a member of the Firm’s Group Global Executive Leadership Group and has represented the firm as part of its delegation to the World Economic Forum in Davos since 2012. Connie is an active supporter of diversity and gender issues and founded the region’s first women’s network.

Described as “an icon in the industry”, Teresa is one of the most prominent corporate and securities lawyers in Hong Kong.

She is the founding partner of Freshfields’ Asia equity capital markets practice and has helped numerous Chinese state-owned, privately-owned and international companies to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE), including advising on eight out of the ten largest IPOs in Hong Kong. She also has an impressive record on public and private M&A transactions and advises on joint ventures and corporate governance matters.

Among her many public service appointments, Teresa currently serves vice-chair of the IFRS Foundation Trustees and as chair of its Due Process Oversight Committee. She was also a member of the Trustee Sustainability Steering Committee which oversaw the establishment of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).

She was the first female to chair the Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s Listing Committee between 2009 and 2011 and was deputy chair for three years before then. She currently serves as co-chair of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s Listing Review Committee and a deputy chair of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC)’s Takeovers and Mergers Panel.

She also served as a non-executive director of the SFC in 2012 to 2018.

Amongst her many accolades, Teresa was recently recognised as a HERoes Executive Role Model in 2023 for the sixth consecutive year and ranked fifth place in 2023’s list of 100 role models. She was also named in IFLR1000 Women Leaders 2022 – an elite ranking for the most prominent women lawyers globally and in Forbes’ ‘Asia’s Power Businesswomen’ list 2021.
