The CCTL Obligations Lab Asia organised a hybrid conference on the theme of “Private Law in Greater China: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” on 10 May 2024. Over 200 attendees joined online or in person to listen to academic speakers from Australia, Mainland China, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Italy, Macau SAR, Portugal and Vietnam.
The presentations discussed how scholarship in contract, tort and other areas of private law can support and promote the continued modernisation of law in Greater China. The keynote speech of the conference was delivered by Prof Liming Wang, Renmin University of China Law School, who discussed “New Developments in Remedies for Breach of Contract in Chinese Contract Law”.
A particular focus of the conference was to explore the extent to which cross-pollination between the private law systems of the Chinese jurisdictions of the Greater Bay Area is possible, necessary and desirable.
The conference provided opportunities for speakers and audiences, to broaden their networks with eminent, established and emerging scholars in their fields.
