Jeffrey Hill is a Professional Consultant in the Faculty of law, who has over 20 years of experience teaching law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He teaches criminal law and family law on the LLB, JD and PCLL programmes. He is the Deputy Course Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL).\u00a0<\/p>

Jeff was called to the Bar of England and Wales by Gray\u2019s Inn in 1997. After call, he worked as an adjunct lecturer at a number of academic institutions, before taking up a post as Legal Adviser\/employed barrister at Oxford Magistrates\u2019 Court. \u00a0During these years, he advised Magistrates in the full range of criminal and family courts across Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley and had special responsibility for cases involving Football Banning Orders and for the taxation of costs from central funds.<\/p>

Jeff was Senior Lecturer in Law at Manchester Law School, Manchester Metropolitan University, for over 15 years. After joining the faculty of law at CUHK, Jeff continued as Visiting Senior Lecturer at Manchester from 2020-2023. During his time at Manchester Law School, Jeff had responsibility for Manchester Law School\u2019s mooting and advocacy activity. He also taught a number of subjects, including criminal law, mooting, constitutional law, family law, and the law of tort. In 2017, Jeff was nominated by Manchester Law School for the UK Law Teacher of the Year award. Prior to his appointment in the Faculty of Law at CUHK in 2020, Jeff also spent 15 years as a Visiting Lecturer at Hong Kong University, where he lectured in criminal law and tort.<\/p>

Jeff\u2019s primary teaching and writing interests are in the fields of criminal law, mooting and family law. He is a frequent international speaker on mooting and is the author of\u00a0The\u00a0Practical Guide to Mooting<\/em>, now in its second edition (Hart Publishing).<\/p>

Jeff is also an editor for Halsbury\u2019s Laws of Hong Kong and the author\/editor of a wide range of criminal law and litigation manuals \/materials for CILEX Law School and the Institute of Law in Jersey. \u00a0<\/p>

Jeff is a member of the Advisory Board for the Essex Court Chambers\/ English Speaking Union National Competition.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>

In Hong Kong, Jeff has contributed to coaching CUHK Law teams in the following competitions:<\/p>

  • The<\/em> International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition<\/em><\/li>
  • Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition <\/em><\/li>
  • Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Moot <\/em><\/li><\/ul>
