European airlines have long argued that competition with Middle Eastern carriers is unfair, mainly because of alleged government subsidies and regulatory asymmetries. As Middle Eastern carriers capture a significant share of connecting traffic between Europe and Asia, European and Asian airlines are calling on their governments to take action, stressing that fair competition is a condition for market access.<\/p><p>The current Iran crisis highlights how much the EU\u2013Asia aviation market has depended on Middle Eastern airlines.
