Prof. Chin Leng LIM was invited by CIETAC to speak on the Effective Resolution of Disputes with Chinese Parties under the CISG

Prof. Chin Leng LIM, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Law, spoke on 31 March 2022 at the invitation of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) on the Hong Kong Government’s current proposals concerning the scope and application of the Sale of Goods (United Nations Convention) Ordinance (CAP 641). The new law is expected to come into force in the third quarter of this year. The Government’s current proposals include (1) the default application of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) to transactions involving HK and Mainland parties, unless excluded by the parties, as well as (2) the proposed disapplication in the Hong Kong S.A.R.  of the PRC’s art. 95 declaration in respect of art. 1(1)(b) of the CISG.
