Prof. Chin Leng LIM, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Law, has been appointed to the European Commission’s ‘List of Candidates Suitable for Appointment as Chairpersons for Arbitrations’ which the Commission announced on 23 June 2022. 

In December 2020, the Commission had called for applications in connection with the renewal of the pool of arbitrators and the separate pool of trade and sustainable development (TSD) experts for dispute settlement panels under trade agreements to which the EU is a party. On 16 December 2020, the Commission adopted decision C(2020)8905 establishing a panel of independent experts to assist the Commission in the selection of adjudicators and arbitrators for dispute settlement mechanisms under EU trade and investment agreements.

The Commission will draw on this list to make proposals for the appointment of chairpersons for arbitrations in a specific case or for pre-agreed lists (rosters) under the relevant bilateral agreements with third countries.
