This lecture honours the enduring legacy of Professor Peter Rhodes by exploring the core pillars of his vision: integrity, education, and the evolving landscape of international arbitration. As a foundational and transformative figure at CUHK LAW, Professor Rhodes revolutionalised legal advocacy by institutionalising mooting as a core educational pillar. Under his legendary guidance, teams achieved historic milestones, including the 2016 Vis East Moot championship, proving that rigorous training shapes world-class advocates. Moving from his legacy, this address analyses the changing tides driven by geopolitical dynamics, digital integration, and heightened demands for ethical transparency within modern international dispute resolution.

Anthony Neoh, SC, Chairman, Asian Academy of International Law.

Dr Anthony Neoh, SC, JP is a senior member of the Hong Kong Bar specialising in international litigation and arbitration. From 1966-1979, he was a member of the Hong Kong Civil Service, leaving with directorate rank in Administrative Service. Commencing practice at the Hong Kong Bar in 1980, he was admitted to the California Bar in 1984 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1990. From 1995-1998, he was Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and from 1999 to 2004, he was Chief Advisor to the China Securities Regulatory Commission at the personal invitation of then Premier Zhu Rongji. Dr Neoh was the first Asian to be elected Chairman of the Technical Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions and was a Member of the Hong Kong Basic   Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People’s congress from 1997-2007. Between 1980 and 2023, Dr Neoh has served in a large variety of public and private positions, including service as Council Member of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and while so serving, he chaired the Planning Committee which gave birth to the Law Faculty. He had served as Adjunct/Visiting Professor in many universities,   including Peking, Tsinghua, Harvard and Singapore National Universities and the PRC National College of Public Administration. In 2009, he was elected an Academician of the Eurasian Academy of Science and in the same year received the International Service Award of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts. He has been Chairman of the Asian Academy of International Law since 2018.
