Following the great success of Female Legal Leaders Seminars in 2019 and 2020, CUHK LAW now proudly presents the third Female Legal Leaders Seminar to be held online on 4 February 2021, 5:30-6:30pm. The online seminar will be delivered by two distinguished female legal leaders: The Honorable Madam Justice Marlene Ng, Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court and Ms. Cathy C.Y. Yeung, Partner of Latham & Watkins.

About the Speakers:

The Honorable Madam Justice Marlene Ng
The Honourable Madam Justice Ng obtained her LL.B. and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1982 and 1983 respectively. She was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1990. She was admitted as a Solicitor of Supreme Court of England and Wales and as a Barrister and Solicitor of Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory in 1991, and as a Solicitor of Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1993. She was in private practice in Hong Kong as a solicitor between 1990 and 2002. She was appointed as District Judge in 2003.  She acted as a Deputy High Court Judge from 2013 until 2019 when she was appointed a Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court.

Ms. Cathy C.Y. Yeung
Ms. Cathy C. Y. Yeung, Global Vice Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Capital Markets Practice and Chair of the firm’s Greater China Practice, has an excellent reputation advising on PRC-related corporate finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and public company representation. She regularly speaks at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Institute of Company Secretaries regarding the rules governing securities listings on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and corporate governance. She was the Bank of China’s company secretary for nearly eight years, until October 2015.

Being the first female lawyer in the key management role of Latham’s Hong Kong office, Ms. Yeung is instrumental in the strategic direction the firm is taking in the region and is a driving force behind Latham’s expansion in Greater China. Ms. Yeung acts as a mentor for many of the female lawyers in Latham’s Greater China offices advising how best to balance a successful career and to be fully equipped to flourish within the increasingly competitive environment. Ms. Yeung was recognized as one of the Top 300 Global Women Leaders by IFLR1000 2018, Leading Lawyer in China Capital Markets: Equity by Chambers Asia-Pacific 2020, Leading Individual in Hong Kong Capital Markets (Equity) by The Legal 500 2021, and Securities Lawyer of the Year in the Asia Legal Awards by The Asian Lawyer 2016.

The Female Legal Leaders Seminars aims to enhance awareness regarding gender issues. Speakers are invited to talk about their lives, their career highlights and how they have become who they are.
