In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Faculty of Law at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK LAW), the Symposium on Diversity and Inclusion – “First But Not Last: Women Leaders Reimagining Justice in Asia” was held on 20 January 2026. Hosted by The Law Society of Hong Kong and supported by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and CUHK LAW, the symposium was intended to recognise the outstanding contributions of female legal leaders to the development of the judiciary in Asia, promote the continued advancement of the legal profession, and uphold the core values of diversity, inclusion and public service.

In his welcome remarks, Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, stated that the symposium reflected the shared commitment of CUHK LAW and The Law Society of Hong Kong to the advancement of the legal profession and to the values of diversity, inclusion and public service.

Moderated by Mr Roden Tong, President of The Law Society of Hong Kong, the symposium brought together The Right Honourable Tun Tengku Maimun binti Tuan Mat, the first female Chief Justice of Malaysia; Dr the Honourable Elsie Leung Oi-sie, the first female Secretary for Justice of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China; and Ms Melissa Pang, the first female President of The Law Society of Hong Kong. They shared their perspectives on fostering diversity, inclusion and ethical leadership within the legal profession.
